Trouble Shooting Guide

ToysToys child cars are the world's premier kids cars, chosen by all the major car manufacturers to make their branded ride-ons. Their children's cars are designed and built to be the undisputed leaders in the child car industry and they back this up with exemplary after sales service.

Totcars operates an official service centre for Toys Toys ride-on cars in the United Kingdom and Ireland. We provide support, service, spare parts and advice to assist continued enjoyment of your child’s car. Good maintenance can ensure longer life and a high resale value after a child has outgrown the car. We recommend that you preserve the original box for possible later transport.

This troubleshooting guide to ToysToys kids electric cars is designed to enable parents to diagnose the issue should any problem arise with your car:

The Electric System of Battery Powered Children's Cars

There are 6 components to the 6volt or 12 volt electrical system:-

  • The battery and its charger

  • The wiring and fuses

  • The hand controls and its wiring

  • The accelerator pedal and its wiring

  • The brake pedal and linked an electrical cut-out

  • The engine that drives the gears

To identify exactly where the fault lies, please carry out the following diagnostic steps:

Battery Charger

The charger’s LED light should show bright GREEN when connected to a switched on electric point and before it is attached to the car. If the charger light is not green, your charger may need replacing.

Fuse

Ensure the fuse has been inserted and is intact. The car will not charge or function without the fuse.

Recharging the Battery

Disconnect the red and black wires from the battery connection from the car and fit the red wire from the battery to the charger's red wire. The charger green light will go off and gradually reappear to bright green when charging is completed.  The battery should not be left uncharged for more than 2 months and the first charge should be 14hrs long.

Checking the Battery

If the car is not being powered, bypass the battery by connecting the charger connection with the white connection of the wiring leading to the engine. If the motor works this way, the battery may need replacing.

Please be aware the battery is not covered by the 1 year guarantee. We will only replace a battery if it is faulty when you receive it.

Fuses/Wiring/Connecters

Check these are clean, tight-fitted, undamaged.

Hand Switch Control

This is quite complex and is well protected but hard usage or exposure to the weather could allow wetness or dust to cause problems.

The Accelerator Pedal and it’s Wiring

Check for looseness or damage.

The Brake Pedal

This controls a spring operating an electrical cut-out bolted underneath the car. When the brake is released, the spring must allow the moveable bar back into the cut-out box. If this bar does not fully slip back, the car’s electrics are cut out.

If any fault or damage occurs please contact Totcars service via email at technical@totcars.com with full details of the problem.
