A 6V battery will be powerful enough to give
kids up to about 5 a fun ride on harder surfaces. The harder the surface the
better your car will go. 12V battery cars will be suitable for most surfaces and many
have 2 speeds, enabling you to limit the speed to 6V until your child is ready
to go faster. Generally the specification is higher on 12V battery cars, some 12V
battery cars
have rubber tyres and many have movable seats and
adjustable steering wheels.
Having the
opportunity to play with a ride-on
is a very important part of
development for a young child. The
main benefits to ride-on play are
outlined below:
- Improved
balance - the child learns how
to distribute their weight
evenly, which helps later on
when they learn trickier things
like how to ride a bike.
- Improved
motor skills and co-ordination -
the child learns how to
pedal/press the accelerator
whilst steering the car at the
same time. The child also learns
to pay attention to his/her
surroundings.
- Encourages
creativity and exploration of
the outdoor environment.
- Health
benefits later on - there is a
proven link to show that
children who are given the
opportunity to play regularly
with their ride on are more
likely to pursue activities that
will maintain fitness as they
get older.
6V electric cars go at around 3mph (walking pace), 12V
electric cars go
at 5mph(jogging pace), 24V electric cars go up to 15mph (pretty darn quick). Battery
powered cars will last anything from half an hour to 2 hours before needing to
be recharged. This is very much dependent on the terrain you ride on, the weight
of the battery car and the weight of the child.
All Totcars battery and pedal cars are built tough to last. The pedal cars come with a one year guarantee and the battery powered cars come with a one year guarantee on the body and 6 months on the electrical system. If a
battery operated car stops running it is very simple for an adult to replace the relevant part.

Most kids cars will specify an age of 3+. This is a safety
guideline and doesn't relate to the size of the child, most 2 year olds will be
able to fit into any 6V battery car or pedal car and many will have the ability to
operate them at a young age. What they can lack is judgement and all kids will
need supervision when using ride on toys.
Most cars (as
opposed to jeeps, motorbikes or
quads) will go up to age 5 or 6.
Jeeps have a deeper subframe so
there is more room for legs and most
will go up to age 8 or beyond. Quads
and motorbike have no limit on leg
length and generally only the weight
of the child will be a limiting
factor, most of this type of vehicle
can handle kids up to 40 -50kg.
Simply order your
car and proceed through the
checkout, you will get a link on the
order confirmation page where you
can fill in your little driver's
details so we can personalise your
driver's pack for you.
If you have
already ordered and paid for your
ride on, but forgot to
order your drivers pack you can
order it
here.
Drivers packs are
sent separately from the ride ons and
usually arrive a few days after you
receive your ride on.
The pedal cars will run on any surface that its
driver can pedal on. The 6V battery cars will
run best on hard surfaces, but will also run on grass. The 6V cars run at a speed that is comfortable for an adult to walk next to. The 12V
battery cars will run on most surfaces
including tarmac, grass, gravel and indoors.
The pedal cars come with a one year guarantee and the
battery cars come with a one year guarantee on the body and 6 months on the electrical system.
The battery is expressly excluded from any guarantee.
Rubber tyres are quieter than plastic and give
a more realistic feel to the kids car, they can also give more grip on softer
surfaces. Many plastic tyres on quality cars are very well made and provide grip
and wont crack easily. We only sell cars whose tyres are robust and will last a
long time even if they are plastic.
All electric cars come complete with rechargeable
batteries and charger.
